The SPR discussion had me thinking of handguards to recommend, and made me remember there are quite a few out there people either don't know about or wouldn't consider for name reasons. We all know (I assume we all know) the Larues, Knights, Troys, etc. I'll list the few that come to mind, if you can think of any others please post them here.
First is one we tried after we ran into it looking for other parts, it's currently at home on a 16" .300 black and I really like it.
It's made by Apex Tactical and falls into the "no nonsense" category. They do have options for rails, but you can leave it bare bones for a lightweight but nice feeling front end.
Another is made by a company called Head Down Products. I first tried it when Primary Arms was selling them for $99 and thought "Why not for that price?" It turned out to be a real nice piece of kit, easy to install, and is keymod. It's a bit bulkier that I think it should be, but it was still pretty light compared to a full quad rail.
UTG (Leapers) has a pretty strong reputation of chinese/airsoft junk, but in the last few years they've really started producing some quality stuff in the USA. Their free float systems in particular are my go to recommendation for people on a budget build, with most of them in the $100 range. They have a few different models now, some with full non detachable rails and some that are adjustable like below.
The last one i'm surprised I don't see more of is Midwest Industries. They have multiple series out now, including a new keymod. Their prices are always lower than comparable systems from other companies, and they make them in 4 or 5 different lengths which can be nice if you're trying to hide the entire barrel of your build.
Keep the list going, Id like to start a database of stuff we've used locally with the pros/cons. As I start seeing new stuff trickling into the range I'll try to take assembly pictures also. On that note while i'm thinking of it, I have most (not all, some are extremely pricey) armorers wrenches for most of the companies out there like DD, VLTOR, Giessele, Troy, etc.
